Materials & Care
A little care helps preserve the details you love. Learn how copper, 925 sterling silver, and Tibetan silver-tone alloys can change with wear, and how to look after your piece.
Materials and finishes vary by design. Check your product description for the metals used in your particular piece, including individual components and any plating.
01 · Warm tones
Copper
Over the months, the copper has slowly darkened. It's been with me through a move, a goodbye, anda fresh start. Whenever I wear it, it feels like an oldfriend is walking beside me. ——Hannah, Paris
Copper has a warm, reddish tone that can deepen and darken with time. Air, moisture, skin contact, and everyday wear can change its surface appearance. The pace and pattern of this change differ from person to person.
Occasional greenish marks on skin can occur with copper-containing jewelry. These marks do not indicate silver content or metal purity. If you notice irritation, remove the piece and stop wearing it.
How to care for it: Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after wearing and store in a dry place. Avoid abrasive cleaners. For coated, plated, or intentionally darkened copper, ask us before using metal polish.
02 · Precious metal
925 Sterling Silver
The silver has taken on a softer glow over time. I wore it on the day I left home, and again when I finally felt settled somewhere new. Reaching for it each morning feels like finding a familiar face in the crowd.
925 sterling silver contains 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals. Its surface can tarnish over time, developing a yellow, brown, or darker tone. Tarnishing alone does not mean a piece is not genuine sterling silver.
How to care for it: Wipe with a soft cloth and store separately in a dry, anti-tarnish pouch. For plain, unplated sterling silver, use a suitable silver-polishing cloth gently when needed.
Keep polishing away from intentionally darkened recesses, plating, enamel, stones, and delicate accents. Repeated polishing can remove finishes and wear away plated surfaces.
03 · Understand the name
Tibetan Silver / Silver-Tone Alloy
Over time, the darker details have become part of what I love about this pendant. I’ve held it while waiting for news, finding my courage, and deciding to try again. Somewhere along the way, it became an old friend I could carry with me.
“Tibetan silver” is not a guarantee of silver purity. The name can be used for silver-colored alloys with varying compositions, including materials with little or no silver. It should not be treated as another name for 925 sterling silver.
A silver-colored appearance or an antique finish cannot confirm a metal's composition. Refer to the product's material details, and contact us if you need clarification about a particular component.
How to care for it: Use a soft, dry cloth. Avoid soaking, chemical silver dips, and abrasive polishing. Cleaning methods depend on the actual alloy and finish.
04 · Simple habits
Everyday Care
- Remove jewelry before showering, swimming, exercise, or household cleaning.
- Apply perfume, lotion, and sunscreen before putting on your jewelry; allow them to dry first.
- After wear, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. Store pieces separately to reduce scratches and tangling.
- For mixed-material pieces, avoid soaking. Cords, seeds, stones, adhesives, and metal finishes may need different care.
- Avoid toothpaste, bleach, abrasive scrubbing, and home cleaning recipes. Ask us before using an ultrasonic cleaner or chemical dip.
Patina and plating wear are different. Patina is a change at the metal surface. A worn coating may reveal a different-colored metal underneath. Cleaning cannot restore missing plating.
A dark antique finish may be intentional. Avoid polishing it away unless you want to change its appearance.
05 · Included with your order
A polishing cloth, on us.
Every order includes a complimentary polishing cloth to help you care for your piece.
For plain, unplated 925 sterling silver: Make sure the piece is dry, then gently wipe the bright metal surfaces with light pressure. Avoid intentionally darkened details, gemstones, enamel, cords, and plated accents.
For copper: Use a plain soft, dry cloth for routine care. Use the included polishing cloth only if its instructions confirm it is suitable for your copper surface and finish.
For Tibetan silver-tone alloys: Use a plain soft, dry cloth unless the alloy and finish have been confirmed suitable for the included polishing cloth. Do not polish plated or intentionally darkened areas.
Use the included cloth according to its care instructions. Polishing may reduce surface tarnish on suitable metals, but it cannot repair scratches or replace worn plating.
